Pot Holder Pattern

Do you have a fvourite frabric print you want to display? Make a set of pot holders, here is a quick and easy way:

From your favourite print, pick two colors and look through your stash for 2 fabrics of each picked color. I picked a light and a medium purple and a light and a medium green. Select plain fabrics for the supporting colors; that will make your print more visible.

Cut for one pot holder:
1 square 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch of favourite print
2 strips  4 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of light purple
2 strips 6 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of light green
2 strips 6 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of medium purple
2 strips 8 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of medium green

Sew on the ligt purple strips on opposite sides of the square. Press. Attach light green fabric strips to the two other sides of the strips. Press. Add the medium purple and medium green in the same manner, look at the picture above.
Select a backing from your stash. Use regular or insulated batting. Layer the pot holder and baste.
Quilt as desired. The pot holders in the pictures are quilted in the ditch.
Cut one strip 1 1/2 inch of one of the darkest fabrics for binding and attach. Close binding on the back with hand stiches.
Make a loop from the binding strip. I folded the fabric in four layers with the cut edges in the middle, and sewed it together with the same thread as I used for the quilting. Attach the loop to one corner.
Here is another example of this pot holder.
