I have finally knitted a pair of socks that I am very pleased with. Used a thinner yarn than what is usually recommended. Ended up making my own pattern! Here it is:
The socks fits a large woman's feet, my feets are shoe size 41 (U.S. 10).
Yarn: ONline SuperSocke 6-ply, 1 skein.
Cast on 72 stiches on knitting needles 3.5 mm (U.S 4).
Repeat around *k2,p2* 15 cm (6 inches).
Knit 3 rounds, on first round reduce with 4 stiches, by knitting two stiches together 4 times evenly.
Heel:
Knit back and fourth on half of the stiches, knit on front, purl on back. Always slip the first stich off without knitting.
Knit 20 rows, that should give you 10 chain stiches, see picture.
Then Close the heel:
On back side, slip 1 stich, purl 19, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn.
On front side, slip 1 stich, knit 5, knit 2 together, knit 1, turn.
Slip 1, purl to 1 stich before gap, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn.
Slip 1, knit to 1 stich before gap, knit 2 together, purl 1, turn.
Continue like this until all stiches are used up.
Reduction:
Pick up a stich from each chain mask of the side of the heel, twist and knit the stich.
Repeat 10 times on each side.
Move stiches so you have 15 stiches on needle 2 and 3 (top of foot).
On first needle, knit 2 together on end of needle. Knit two together in the beginning of 3rd needle.
Knit one round plain.
Repeat these two rounds until you have 18 stiches on the needles.
Continue to reduce every 4th row until 15 stiches on each needle, 60 stiches total.
Foot:
Knit around until desired lenght, mine is 19 cm.
Measure your feet and subract 7 cm (2 3/4 inches) for toe.
Toe:
Knit 2 together at the end of each needle first round.
Knit 1 round.
Repeat 9 times.
Knit 2 togeter at the end of each needle every round until there are 8 stiches left.
Pull the thread through the last stiches.
Fasten threads.
