Hats! Hats!

Two more hats are done! The one above is once more The Scimney Sweepeers Hat  (pattern in Swedish) made in cotton (Dale Lerke). The hat was given to my son, and he actually agreed to have his picture taken!

The second hat I only made the top part and assembled for a lady. She is actually 96, still knits and bike 2 miles to the grocery store! I am honored that I could help her finish her hat! I mailed it off today, hope she likes it and that it will fit her!

Another Guitar Hat

Another Guitar hat is done, see description in previuos post. The edge is different this time, and I increased stiches AFTER the edge was finished. This seemed to give a better shape of the hat..

The hat will be a present to my sons guitar teacher. He is very much appreciated!

Another Toiletry Brick in the Wall

My 12 year old son is going away on camp soon, and he needed a new toiletry bag. He picked out the main fabric himself, and I added the green. The bag is based on a pattern in Grete Gulliksen Moe latest book "Fargesprakende Patchwork".

Advent Weekend in Oslo

This last weekend I stayed at my sister's in Oslo. I also spent some time shopping, amongst others visited Kathrines Quilte Stue.

I also met my mom, and we went to a concert, with Sissel Kyrkjebø and Odd Nordstoga. Their songs gave me goosebumps.

The picure of the winter princess is from the window of the shopping mall Steen & Strøm. Very beautiful, reminds me of Harrods Store windows in London.

My son and my sister's son are 12, and are not so interested in baking for christmas any more. They did participate, but when the gingerbread house collapsed, it took a turn for the worse with drowning and dismembered candy people stabbed with tooth-picks. We ended having fresh donuts with our coffee instead.

Le Moyne Star Wallhanging

The wallhanging is now ready and up in my kitchen, and I am pleased with the result, they go well with my french inspired kitchen. I love these fabrics from Kathrines Quiltestue!
The description on how to make this star by machine I found on the internet page of The Blue Mountain Quilt Guild in California. Note that the start block consists of four sub-blocks. Each sub-block measure 6 1/4 " inch before assembly.
I made a sampler of this block earlier, but I prefer to do them on my sewing machine. If I am going to use this block again, I will make the blocks a little smaller. The size is good for a bigger quilt like a bed quilt or throw.

And I made another pencil case today, this time a circular one.

Cats and quilts

What is it with cats and quilts? I see the close relationship in my cats and also in pictures taken by other bloggers.
This last week I understood that this is ancient history. I spent a few days in London with my family, and at The British Museum there where mummies of cats from 50 BC. Notice that this cat is wrapped in fabric in a log cabin pattern!

The larger museums are free in London, and highly recommended!

We also visited Busckingham Palace. In the closeby parks the easter lillies, crocuses and snowdrops was just starting. My best shopping experience was Harrods and Marks & Spencer on Oxford Street. We also went to a show; Thriller live, which was good, and also enjoyable for my 11 year old son. We stayed at the Corus Hotel Hyde Park, which was nice but it does not live up to the pictures.

Like last time in London , I was amazed by some creative heart handbags, signed by Marc Jacobs.

Mother's Day Breakfast

The deers are back behind the house, like last year. I sometimes late at night see them lay down and go to sleep between the trees.

The birds and squirrels are also busy feeding and great to watch (so think my two cats).

Today it is mother's day here in Norway, and look what my son made me! Very nice!

I have since last post finished another Rauma Cable Hat in grey. It is a present for a friend of my mother and a lady I used to work with in a grocery store when I was in high school. Her name is Tulla and she is 86 years old. She lives alone and gets grocery by bike, a few miles away from her house. An amazing lady!

Tied Comforter

Another quick project is finished. While shopping for fabric in the US this summer, my son decided he wanted a comforter for when he was playing his PS2 games. He picked out the fabrics himself. The "hot" front fabric is cotton purchased at WallMart in Eau Claire, WI, and the backing is a "cold" flannell purchased at Ben Franklin in Chippewa Falls,WI. The quilt is tied.

The project is low-cost. I visited Katrines Quilestue in Oslo, Norway this weekend. A wonderful place, with very helpful ladies. A must for a quilter to visit. But NOT low-cost... Another project is waiting in line, I have quite a few now. I am also going to a embroidery class next week. with Bente Tufte, arranged by my local quilt group, Sølvtråden Lappelag.

A quilter is never bored!

My Son and I

A few days ago, my son who is soon 11 an I went for a walk in the woods behind our house. Not too far there is a waterfall, which not that many people knows about. Our secret place. The weather was wet, but we had a good time. Here are my son and me; we took pictures of eachother.

I also promised my son to show you some of his crafts projects. He now knows how to knit, crochet and tye; poor boy.. Some of the projects he also made at school, e.g the wood projects. I took time off my job in engineering to assist the teacher to teach the 20+ kids to knit, the red mouse was the end product at that time.

A new post will come shortly, almost done with my next quilt. It is a tied scrap quilt. Drop by again!
