Summer Vacation 2015

Not much to show for in the crafting section, only these pot holder for my mom (as ordered). I have made many of these, see info in earlier posts.

I had a great week in Lofoten, Norway with my family, parents and uncle. Did get time for some horseback riding at Hov Hestegård, a memorable time "tølting" along the beach.
Icelandic horse Mimir.
I visit the Skral festival in Grimstad and listen to Hozier. <3 <3
Later my husband and I went to England; here are some pictures:
Tracy Park & Golf in Wick
Victoria Park, Bath
The Island Chapel in St.Ives
St. Michael's Mount outside Penzance
The Bear Hotel in  Devizes
My 18 year old son got his driving license this summer, see him drive out of the yard for the first time was a milestone.  He has spent the last fourweeks in the US. He has been a counselor at a summer camp. I even got to read about him in the local paper Leader Telegram! I am very proud of him. The biggest event is though seeing my cabin being built up in the mountains. It actually made me cry the first time I saw it. It should be ready for Christmas. Got to make quilts, curtains, and furniture this fall!
Now back to work!

Crochet Potholders again!

Sorry about the cat tail, could NOT tget mayself take it out of the picture!
Another set of potholders are done, a christmas present for my sister-in-law Mrs A. They are made by tunisian crochet with scalloped chrochet edged and two layers. The pattern is a variation from the book "Hekling og hakking til kjøkkenet" by Tove Fevang.
I used SMC Cotton Time yarn. I love this yarn, it does not split when crocheting. The importer to Norway is bankrupt, so hopefully somebody else will start importing the yarn. Or I have to start looking for a good cotton alternative.

Home again!

A great and varied vacation this year, came back refreshed and with some new stash; several handbag fabric and accessories, Christmas raffle projects and some fabric with horse print. First we went to the north of Norway with the midnight sun.
Hawaii, snorkeling with sea turtles, glowing volcanoes and beautiful flowers.
Then to Wisconsin to see family. I did not get much progress on my English paper piecing, but I finished a pair of pot holders for my dear sister in law.
Pattern: Crochet for the Kitchen By Tove Fevang ( pattern slightly adjusted)
A good tutorial on tunisian crochet.
Yarn: Cotton Time by Schahenmeyer, cream and coral. A good yarn that does not split while crocheting!
I am a cat person, but this puppie got to me!

Pot Holders

This is my first product in a tecnique new to me; tunisian crochet /railway knitting
I also crocheted scallops along the edges, also a first time for me. Not perfect, but it was fun, I will make more!
I used cotton yarn Schachenmayr Cotton Time; which was a good choice. The cotton yarn did not split, and it is washable. I used a chrochet hook 5mm from Knit Pro with a cord.
The pattern is from a norwegian book called "Hekling og hakking til kjøkkenet" by Tove Fevang. The book is now available in a cheaper version in the grocery store magazine shelf!

This is when my 16 year old son started to give me a hard time....

Double pot holder

Fabric: "Blooms & Bursts" by Jen Da Silva for Studio e, and some scraps.
Pattern is free; from The Boy Trifecta.
To make the pocket Twister block, I used that smallest size Lil' Twister ruler.
I think the pot holder is a little short, but fully usable. It was a little hard to put together the sandwich, so next time I will make it bigger, then cut it down after quilting and before putting on the binding. A great small christmas gift. Ooops! I said that word already!
Linking up to TGIFF at Missy Mac Creations, for the fourth time in five weeks!!

Scrappy pot holders

Two sets of potholders from scraps got their binding on this weekend, maybe heading for the local christmas market. I spent the weekend skiing at Gaustablikk, Telemark, Norway. Beautiful, sunny or snowstorm!

Misteltoe Pot Holders

Two more sets of knitted pot holders are done, a total of four now. Slow progress due to a pinched nerve in my arm. The pot holders will be for sale at a Christmas bazaar at “Jondalen Vevstue”.

The yarn is Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn, color: 00138 Mistletoe. 3 balls are just enough for a pair. The pattern is available at Lion Brand Free Pattern pages. You have to make a login to get access, but that is also free. The crystal figurines in the picture is from a local glass factory called “Hadeland Glassverk”.

Pot Holder Pattern

Do you have a fvourite frabric print you want to display? Make a set of pot holders, here is a quick and easy way:

From your favourite print, pick two colors and look through your stash for 2 fabrics of each picked color. I picked a light and a medium purple and a light and a medium green. Select plain fabrics for the supporting colors; that will make your print more visible.

Cut for one pot holder:
1 square 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch of favourite print
2 strips  4 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of light purple
2 strips 6 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of light green
2 strips 6 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of medium purple
2 strips 8 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch of medium green

Sew on the ligt purple strips on opposite sides of the square. Press. Attach light green fabric strips to the two other sides of the strips. Press. Add the medium purple and medium green in the same manner, look at the picture above.
Select a backing from your stash. Use regular or insulated batting. Layer the pot holder and baste.
Quilt as desired. The pot holders in the pictures are quilted in the ditch.
Cut one strip 1 1/2 inch of one of the darkest fabrics for binding and attach. Close binding on the back with hand stiches.
Make a loop from the binding strip. I folded the fabric in four layers with the cut edges in the middle, and sewed it together with the same thread as I used for the quilting. Attach the loop to one corner.
Here is another example of this pot holder.

A Stack of Pot Holders!

Now my stack of pot holders are done!

For information on pattern and fabric, see my earlier table cloth post.

I also want to give you a sneak preview of my secret design project. Here is a picture of the fabric that is my source of inspiration for the color selection. It is called Butterfly Breeze from Lakehouse.
